Name;
The name Axel is but an anagram of his original's name, yes? Even so, there are many ways one can stick in an "x" and rearrange the letters. I like to believe that they chose the name Axel for more than just the way it sounds. "Axel" happens to be a Scandinavian name originating from "Absalom," which means "father of peace." Okay, scratch that origin. "Axel" can be rearranged to form the English word axle, which is what a wheel revolves on. He's got the wheels for weapons, so he himself is the axle that holds them together. ... Kinda corny if you ask me. The best relation I find is to the Japanese pronounciation of his name, which is "Akuseru". "Aku" by itself means evil, which is precisely what Axel is.
